Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
